Ramadan is a time of giving, a time of peace and prayer, and a month where reciting and reflecting on the words of the Quran holds a special significance.
MAX is excited to host the 2nd Annual Quran Recitation Competition. The ultimate goal of this event is to improve familiarity with our holy book, and encourage Muslim youth from across Canada to connect with the Quran during Ramadan.
There is a total of CAD $8,000 in cash prizes to be won!
Submission Categories
- Category 1: Elementary/Middle School (up to and including Grade 8)
- First Place: CAD $1,000
- Second Place: CAD $500
- Judges Choice: CAD $500
- Category 2: High School (Grade 9-12 and CEGEP)
- First Place: CAD $1,500
- Second Place: CAD $1,000
- Judges Choice: CAD $500
- Category 3: College/University (up to and including 32 years of age (as of April 7, 2022))
- First Place: CAD $1,500

Submission Details and Guidelines
Prescribed Surah: Surah Al-’Alaq
Submissions open: March 24, 2022 @ 12:01 AM ET
Deadline for submission: April 7, 2022 @ 11:59 PM ET
Submission Guidelines:
- The applicant must reside in Canada.
- The applicant must be 32 years of age or younger (as of April 7, 2022).
- The application form must be filled completely and accurately. If any information is missing, or incorrectly completed, the submission will be disqualified.
- The applicant must upload a video of the recitation of the Prescribed Surah (Surah Al-’Alaq).
- The uploaded video must be clear and must not be altered by any video editing software.
- The applicant is not required to memorise the Surah.
- The applicant must be forward facing in the video.
- No recordings will be accepted.
- The file upload limit is up to 700 MB.

Deadline for voting: May 2, 2022 @ 23:59 PM ET
How to vote:
- View the finalist videos in each of the categories (https://onemax.org/quran-recitation-competition/). Please right click the link to open in a new tab/window.
- Rank the recitations in each category from 1 – 6 below. You can rank one specific category, or choose to rank all categories. 1 should be for your top choice.
- Submissions with the same email address will only be counted once, and will be discarded if different in vote. Incomplete votes will be disqualified.
- The final ranking of candidates will be based on a percentage weighting of the Judge’s scores and a percentage weighting of the voting results.
