The Woman of the Year Award will recognize a woman who has demonstrated significant achievement, leadership, and commitment to serving her community.

Eligibility Criteria:

A nominee must:

The candidate must self-identify as a Muslim Woman.
Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.
Have demonstrated significant achievement and leadership for significant or distinguished achievement in a professional domain or community initiative
Strive to elevate the Muslim brand by promoting a positive image of Muslim women and the Muslim community in Canada
Have demonstrated a commitment to serving her community through volunteerism, charitable giving, or other activity

Awards

The objective of MAX Awards is to recognize Muslims who have demonstrated significant achievement, leadership, and commitment to serving their community.

MSF awards well-rounded High school and University students who are eager to make an impact, learn and create. Winners are students who have contributed to their communities and Canada at large, achieved above-average marks and are recognized by their peers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. MSF is a registered charitable entity, and donors are eligible for a Charitable Tax Receipt.

Mentors

MAX Mentors is a professional mentorship program that connects near-career students with early career mentors and early career professionals with mid-career mentors to catalyze excellence amongst the Canadian Muslim community and help a new generation break glass ceilings.

MAX Business LAB aims to facilitate and encourage the development & success of high performing Muslim decision makers in Business across three core principles:
i. L – Leadership
ii. A – Advisory
iii. B – Professional Training

Women in Leadership

MAX Women In Leadership is a program with a mission to celebrate, inspire and cultivate leadership excellence in Canadian-Muslim women. The program focuses on Recognition, Leadership, and Network & Partnerships, thereby connecting and mobilizing Muslim women across Canada to institute a strong and sustainable network.

MAX Gala

The Annual MAX Gala is an incredible night of celebration that offers a rare glimpse into the skills, talents and cultural strengths of a dynamic community of patriotic Canadian Muslims, whose continued efforts help build a strong workforce, energize the economy, and expand our combined cultural horizons. It represents the culmination of efforts of hundreds of volunteers across a plethora of teams at MAX.

Noora Sharrab (2021)

Woman of the Year

Noora Sharrab is the CEO and co-Founder of Sitti Social Enterprise Limited. She obtained her Masters degree in Political Science with a Specialization in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies at York University in Toronto, Canada. In 2009 she co-founded an NGO called, Hopes for Women in Education (hopesforwomen.org), to provide higher-education scholarships, skills training and online language development (via Banaat Connect – banaatconnect.org) to refugee and displaced women in Jordan.

For several years Noora has worked with United Nations agencies in Jordan focusing on education, international development and relief services. In 2013, she partnered with Jacqueline Sofia to establish a Social Enterprise: Sitti (www.sittisoap.com) with the purpose to empower refugee communities to become self-reliant through employment and to help enhance their opportunity to become financially independent and self-sustainable.

Noora is an Advisory Council member with UNHCR Canada, and an Advisory Council Member with WeConnect International (Canada). She is also an ELLA altitude Participant and most recently a Canadian SheEO Venture Winner. Noora Sharrab has trained and worked with hundreds of refugees and served over 1000 refugees locally in the community. Her active role working with refugee communities in Jordan pushed her towards fundraising and building a Women’s Centre in the Gaza Refugee Camp in Jerash, Jordan. It currently employs over 30 full-time refugee women and men with disabilities.
